During an interview on Monday at The Atlantic Festival, Cook said that Apple created products including new Apple watches and iPads that will launch on time this year, with COVID-19 making the most employees want to work outside the office.
Cook said he doesn’t think Apple is “getting back to the way it was because we found that there are some things that actually work very well virtually.”
The comments contrast with the opinions of other executives, such as Netflix Inc.’s Reed Hastings, who recently called remote work “a pure negative,” and JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Jamie Dimon, who warned of lasting damage if workers don’t They do not do it. Come back to the office soon.
Cook said that between 10% and 15% of Apple employees have returned to the office and he hopes most of the staff will be able to return to the company.
The CEO said he goes to the office at different times during the week, noting that remote work “is not like being together physically.” Working in the office creates creativity, as happens during impromptu meetings, he added.
Cook was also asked how long he plans to run the Cupertino, California-based tech giant. “We’ll see,” he said.
