Apple Inc. said it will hold an online event on September 15, where the company is expected to unveil its latest Apple Watch. The event will air from the company’s website beginning at 10 a.m. Pacific time.
The tech giant often puts on a fancy hardware-centric show each fall from its headquarters in Cupertino, California, or from another location in Silicon Valley. This event will only be online due to the Covid-19 pandemic. That follows Apple’s developer conference in June, which worked well as a virtual event.
The announcement of the event on Apple’s website does not have a typical tagline hinting at what will be announced. But the invitation to the media says “Time flies,” which indicates that the ad is related to the Apple Watch, not the iPhones. The new iPhones won’t be released until October, Bloomberg News reported.
The company is preparing new high-end and low-end Apple watches, as well as a redesigned iPad Air with an edge-to-edge display. It’s also working on a smaller HomePod and Apple-branded first pair of in-ear headphones that will launch later this year.
The new iPhones, which will come later, will have redesigned cases, updated cameras, and 5G capabilities. Apple also plans to announce the first Mac with its own processors, replacing Intel Corp., before the end of the year. The next iPhone and iPad software updates will be released this month, and software updates for Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Mac will arrive in the fall.
Shares of the company have risen this year due to growing demand for iPhones, iPads, and other tech equipment needed to work and study from home during the pandemic.
It also faces increased antitrust scrutiny and complaints from App Store developers, including Epic Games.
