The new year will start a little later for Nissan employees in the United States.
The company’s North American office announced that it will stop working all workers on January 2-3 as sales continue to decline.
“While we have made some positive progress, Nissan’s performance has not met our expectations,” said Nissan North America President José Valls in a memo obtained by Automotive News.
The closure will affect the company’s North American headquarters in the Nashville, Tennessee area, as well as plants in Smyrna and Decherd, Tennessee, and Canton, Mississippi.
Nissan posted its third consecutive drop in sales in November and has been in crisis since the arrest of former President Carlos Ghosn. Two months ago, the company appointed its third CEO in three years, with Makoto Uchida taking the reins.
However, the automaker is not alone when it comes to low numbers. The National Association of Automobile Dealers forecasts 16.8 million deliveries in 2019, up from 17.3 million last year.
